Mrs. Catherine Harper, Principal

I am honored to serve as the Principal of Northwood Elementary and am excited to begin my 11th year as part of this incredible school community. This year also marks my 34th year in education, all proudly spent in North East ISD.

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of teaching kindergarten, first, second, and fourth grade before moving into campus leadership. I served as Assistant Principal at Coker Elementary and Clear Spring Elementary before joining Northwood as principal. Every step of my journey has reinforced my belief that every child is unique, capable, and deserving of opportunities to thrive. My leadership philosophy is simple: every decision we make should be centered on what is best for students and help them grow into successful, confident learners.

Outside of school, my husband, John, and I enjoy spending time with our teenage daughter, who is a proud Northwood alumna. As a family, we love being outdoors—whether we're hunting, fishing, or relaxing at the beach. I also enjoy reading whenever I can find a quiet moment.

It is truly a privilege to serve the students, families, and staff of Northwood Elementary. I am grateful every day for the opportunity to be part of such an amazing, supportive community, and I look forward to another wonderful year of learning, growth, and partnership.

Ms. Andrea Young, Assistant Principal

I am beyond excited to begin my second year as Assistant Principal of Northwood Elementary School. I bring over 18 years of dedication, experience, and passion serving in elementary schools in the San Antonio, Killeen, and Houston areas as both a teacher and assistant principal.

I earned a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas State University, an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from The University of Texas at San Antonio, and I am currently pursuing my Ed.D. in K–12 Professional Leadership from the University of Houston.

I am a native San Antonian and a product of NEISD schools (Windcrest, Ed White, and Roosevelt). In my early teaching career, I spent four of my most formative years as an educator in NEISD as a 4th grade teacher at Clear Spring Elementary School. Family ties run deep in NEISD, as my younger brother and sister are also educators in the district.

Outside of my professional commitments, I enjoy volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters and my sorority. I love to sing karaoke and am obsessed with all things The Golden Girls.

I am excited to continue this journey with the Northwood Elementary School community!
